Teaching
Throughout my academic career I have always had a thirst for teaching. From the my first
taste, teaching classes of 60 middle school kids english in China to my experience of
working in one of worst schools in Yorkshire and tutoring at University, I have seen every
form of teaching in many environments.
Whilst studying my Phd i have chosen to mostly teach the lower classes as i most enjoy
teaching non-specialists and first years as they have the most to gain I feel, they have
brilliant and different insights into topics i have been studying for years. I have also tutored
more advance classes such as high level astrophysics and relativity. These classes are
very different as they are much more academically challenging and a great way to keep
touch on topics I dont often cover in my PhD.
Outside University I spent a month working in a school in Shefield which was a brilliant
experience. I worked as part of a teach in the worst school in Sheffield, but with the best
ofsted report in sheffied. I was truely inspirational and showed my the real art of being a
good teacher, having the patience and ingenuity to capture the imagination of children
from unstable backgrounds.
From china to the lecture rooms of Edinburgh I have always loved the teaching side of
education.
