In addition to my research and interests as an astronomer, i have many other interest outside the observatory walls.
Hockey
Throughout my University career I have been a keen hockey player. Whilst at the University of Sheffield I was both first team captain in the 2008/09 season and the club captain / president in the 09/10 season. Since starting my phd at University of Edinburgh I have played for the first team who are in the Scottish premier league.
Travel
In addition to hockey I love to travel. I took a year out before starting my undergraduate where I taught English as a foreign language in a middle school in a small town in the Zhezhang provence, China. This experience lead to my love for mandarin and the chinese culture. Since my 6 month spell in China I spent my first two years at university studying chinese and management and spent a month and half there travelling in 2011.
In 2009 I spent my summer working in Moshi, Tanzania, helping to build schools, and teach in them. The duties I took on in my time in Tanzania included some teaching, school building and conservation. I also had the fortunate opportunity to spend the night in a African tribe camp; an experience i shall never forget!
I have had the good fortune to experience many parts of the world including both coasts of the USA, all over Europe, both east, south and west, Asia and Africa. I am hoping that with such a large world out there I can continue my cultural education.
